We doubled the turnover over the next 10 years, through expansion, product rationalisation, and close attention to financial management. We developed links with the German heating systems group HOTSET, worked for companies such as BHP, Ford and Argyle Diamonds, and became the first heating element company to receive internationally recognized quality standard ISO 9002.The project management skills I developed at SEPHCO proved invaluable when I bought into Power Tech Systems in 1996 – a company that designs, manufactures, imports, installs and services UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supplies) systems throughout Australia.It supplies companies such as IBM, Hewlett-Packard, the Bureau of Meteorology, ANZ Bank and Woolworths – operations that simply must have secure power 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.When Power Tech was sold to a publicly listed company, the opportunity came to offer environment assessment services. It’s a logical step following a career that has mixed and matched a wide range of opportunities, experiences and skills.I have a great eye for detail, and the involvement with Power Tech was the genesis for what I do now. When checking the power situation of a business, the question began to arise, what about other aspects of the building and the company? What other potential situations are there that could arise and cause break-down, close-down, or injury?So much so, that I am expanding my role, where I stay on as a consultant and actually oversee the necessary work I have suggested, and, if invited, continue on an advisory basis, helping to guide and grow the business.Clients welcome my independence, and the fact that they are getting an unbiased, fresh eye cast across their situation.Above all, they appreciate the quality of my work, born out of Professional Engineering.
