Co-funded by the Department of the Environment and the Strategic Investment Board, the Waste PDSU has been established to provide expertise and advice to NI's three Waste Management Group (made of the twenty-six councils in NI that hold responsibility for the collection, treatment and disposal of household municipal waste) in delivering the waste.

As associate advisor to Scottish Futures Trust I am working with several Scottish Local Authorities in the delivery of infrastructure projects for food waste and residual waste.In general terms this work has been of a similar nature to the delivery of the NI residual waste procurements (see above), albeit within a slightly different regulatory and policy.

• I joined IM Consulting Ltd in 2006 to head up and develop the waste/resource management arm of their consultancy business. As part of this I:
• Carried out a range of technology review projects for private sector waste operators in Scotland.
• Commissioned by a landfill operator in central Scotland to review disposal options for a difficult waste stream from the oil and gas sector (oil based mud washings) and the issues surrounding disposal in a stable.
• Project Director for the development of an in-vessel composting plant for treating mixed food and green waste from councils in the north of Scotland. This included taking the project through planning and permitting.
• Commissioned by Oil and Gas UK to carry out a technical appraisal for the storage of NORM scale waste (a problematic low level radioactive waste stream) and to assess market appetite from the waste industry for.

• As the Scottish Director and a Board member, I was responsible for strategic planning, project delivery and operations, P&L performance, staff management and succession planning for the entire Scottish business – an.
• Director of Shanks Argyll and Bute and Shanks Dumfries and Galloway, the SPVs set up to deliver and operate these two long-term PPP contracts.
• I successfully managed the delivery of several major civil projects under the Dumfries & Galloway PPP contract, both in terms of time-scales and within budgeted costs. The projects included a 65,000 tonnes per annum.
• Key member of a team which negotiated an off-take contract with a cement manufacturer for the disposal of Solid Recovered Fuel (SRF) from the Dumfries & Galloway PPP contract.
• Successfully managed the integration of a ‘bolt-on’ commercial waste collections business that was acquired in late 2005.
• Project Director responsible for relocating the Scottish Regional Head office from Coatbridge to Glasgow on time and within budget, with minimal business interruption.
