With a footfall of up to 50,000 people per day, including many tourists, a good knowledge of customer care was essential. Covent Garden Market hosts a number of large commercial events and a hand’s on approach is essential when dealing with all areas of planning an event from electrical requirements, car-parking, security cover, risk assessments, method statements, health and safety to the issuing of invoices after the event.Most of my time at Covent Garden saw me carry out the dual role of Security / Operations Manager for Covent Garden Market Management. I was involved in overseeing the whole of the facilities and ensuring the smooth day to day running of operations within the market. I liaised with all tenants and landlords as well as Nelson Bakewell Head Office, clients (Scottish Widows), all sub-contractors, Council and Police Officials. I also oversaw big developments such as the new £3 million refuse scheme.Other duties included • Compilation of all assignment instructions, health and safety policies, emergency procedures and risk assessments for the entire Covent Garden Market Area. • To give advice to clients and the area trust on all security matters both physical and electronic and to also make sure continual training schemes were on offer to all staff. • I also oversaw all cleaning staff and carried out COSHH assessments including safe working methods. • I was involved in the tendering process to change all services. My role, included writing up a security and cleaning specification for tender and also assisting the managing agents facilities director on the M&E specification. Issues such as DDA, PPM and purchase orders were also part of the role I was undertaking.I compiled a detailed ‘Major Action Disaster Plan’ for the Covent Garden Market area that I was responsible for.

I was responsible for up to 400 staff including 3 Area Managers and Administration Staff, this would also include the deployment of all officers and the following• Payroll• Dealing with ALL disciplinary action within the company• Hiring of ALL staff (including door supervisors, VIP security)• Making sure all staff were trained proficiently• To arrange further training held with governing bodies (SITO & BSI)• Issuing of Uniform• Liase with Local Bodies of all sites such as Police and Local Councils• Staff Assessments• Holiday Requests and sickness periods• Produce Rotas 2 weeks in advance• Recruitment of additional officers to include short-term cover• Produce all assignment instructions and emergency procedures for all sites
