- Leading Photonic packaging and integration activities at Mbryonics - Management of multiple research and development projects incl. Irish nationally funded, ESA funded and commercial. - Overseeing the development of novel photonic packages and scalable packaging processes for both space and terrestrial applications- Packaging and integration process development - Overseeing test and measurement of packaged devices and systems- Development of novel architectures for optical data and communication links onboard satellite payloads and in other harsh environments

- Technical lead for packaging applications and workpackage leader in the H2020 PIX4life Pilot Line. My role involves the management of photonic packaging and integration activities for this project.- Management of packaging activities on a number of EU funded (PLAT4M, PIX4life, ACTPHAST), European Space Agency and industry related research projects. - Technical lead for packaging applications and workpackage leader in FP7 PLAT4M project. My role involves the management of all photonic and electronic packaging activities for this project.- Photonic Packaging process development - developing custom processes and innovative packaging solutions for the packaging of novel silicon photonic devices and other optical systems on a number of research projects.- Optical coupling and design - coupling of optical components such VCSELs and Photodiodes to optical fibres using micro-optics. This also involves overseeing the electronic and mechanical design of the packages which will house the components and testing of the completed prototypes

My postdoctoral research to date has focused on burst-mode transmission systems for next generation fibre optic communication systems.
