I am the Deputy Manager for Direct Works.At Engineering & Direct Works.My role is to provide support and to deputise for the direct works manager and the department. The department currently has just over 70 team members ranging from a multi disciplined work force encompassing electrical /mechanical /structural and a dedicated preventative maintenance team and not excluding the help desk & call allocation.With the whole team supporting the University of Exeters infrastructure and research goals! The deputy role also includes my role as Gas Manager for Engineering & Direct WorksAnd my other management responsibilities include;Contract administrator.Manage all types of natural gas sytems including support for University's 10 million pound network.Managing a team of in house commercial gas safe engineers from installation to servicing and emergency breakdowns including our in house ESP for University's network.Lab gas compliance management,Including project installations. Compressed air systems compliance management, including installations.nitrogen generation compliance management, including installations.

• Manage the University gas assets, ensuring all statutory compliance works are properly managed, undertaken and inspection records completed.• Lead ‘first response’ team for reported/suspected gas escapes on all Exeter Campuses and outlying properties and to liaise with the gas suppliers emergency response team and/or attending emergency services.* Undertake the day to day assignment of work to the in-house property maintenance workforce and external contractors.* Line manage a multi-trade workforce and support the development of multi skilling of staff and specialist externally verified training for team staff.* Assist in the planning, co-ordination and implementation of work of the Property Services team in undertaking multi-disciplinary projects.* Assist in the development of and maintain positive customer relations.* Provide and/or assist in delivering technical information and cost advice to customers.* Provide assistance to the Campus Services - Customer Services Manager in managing the maintenance stores operation.* Assist in providing specialist advice and/or support with regard to gas and oil installations, including private distribution networks, associated equipment, and liaise with consultants, specifiers, manufacturers and equipment suppliers.* Liaise with the various University Safety Committee representatives and assist in arranging to carry out recommendations of the Safety Committee.* Undertake regular audits and quality control of statutory reporting, in-house gas competent staff and contractors staff.* Development, management and monitoring of safe working practices, in line with current legislative and industry guidance information.* Assisting with the management of GPRS routine maintenance programmes.
