Dr Alan Parnham trained at the Royal London Hospital Medical College from 1979-1985 and obtained FRACP in 1996. His earlier research at the Richard Bright Renal Unit in Bristol has resulted in the formation of Exonate Corporation. During his postgraduate research project, he isolated a protein which has been developed into an eye drop formulation with the aim of preventing blindness in patients with Diabetic retinopathy and macular degeneration. Safety studies in human trials delivered postive results safety and efficacy outcomes.He is committed to practicing Renal medicine in both Public and Private Hospitals. He is currently the Director of the Gold Coast Private Hospital Dialysis unit. VMO to the Gold Coast University Hospital, Robina Hospital, Gold Coast Private and Pindara Hospitals. He recently expanded his private practice, South Coast Renal. The group is made up of 7 leading renal physicians on the Gold Coast. Excellence in renal care and pushing for advances in best practice are values of the team at South Coast Renal.Dr Parnham is an active member of the Nephology network nationally and internationally. He is currently the principle investigation for 3 multi centre clinical trials for multinational pharmaceutical organisations. He is passionate about education and is currently the clinical advisory lead for Amgen One, renal conference to be held in 2024. In Australia, he was a past chairman of the statewide renal network of Queensland as well as lecturer at the Griffith Medical School. Dr Parnham has in the past 20 years promoted nephrology and dialysis training in Indonesia and Fiji. He has mentored all of the current nephrologist consultants in North Sumatra and Aceh as well as reintroduced peritoneal dialysis back into Fiji 2018.His commitment to quality medicine is demonstrated by his active representation on medical advisory committees and patient review committees for multiple hospitals. He is a highly respected by his peers and has particular interests in hypertension, vasculitis and dialysis.His passion extends beyond medicine, and involves trekking through rain forest or mountains, scuba diving and rugby union. His extensive travel of the world is often accompanied by many amusing stories. Currently Dr Parnham is helping the QLD government to support the development of the Health and Knowledge Precinct, Gold Coast. Plans are underway to build a world class R&D facility as well as attracting talents from around the world to take residence at the North Star development, project due for completion by 2024.
