Principal Scientist
Project leader and principal researcher, organising and carrying out complex applied research and production projects in specialist areas. Creation of specific project plans and cost estimates. Preparation of reports and product specifications. Setting up and supervising extra-mural specialist research contracts (but not since switching to part-time role).Provision of a wide-ranging consultancy and technical support service to MoD or other sponsoring organisations and to colleagues within the department on general chemistry, formulations and materials. Attending appropriate conferences and courses. Carrying out feasibility studies into novel fields of interest (including a non-MoD consultancy project for a wire enamel manufacturer in USA & Canada).Technical presentations at seminars and to clients. These help promote the department’s programmes and capabilities.Formerly chairman of two specialised technical working groups, involving detailed investigations, practical development work and technical presentations to clients at high-level seminars. Includes a major contribution to a working group run by another Dstl group.Good record of success in high-profile projects of significant importance, involving a wide range of subjects.Good reputation presenting technical information in reports and presentations to Sponsors.
