Alan Ritchie received his architectural education in England. Afterwards he worked for six years in England, where he held the position of assistant architect with The Essex County Council and was architect-in-charge of a multi-million dollar civic center complex in Reading Berkshire. Mr. Ritchie then moved to the United States and joined the firm of Harrison and Abramowitz, where he supervised the design and construction of a bank and office complex in Buffalo, New York. After two years with H&A he began working with architects Philip Johnson and John Burgee, in whose practice he held the position of Associate and Principal. During that time, he was responsible for several major projects such as The American Telephone and Telegraph world Headquarters and Times Square Center, both in New York City, among others. In 1987, Mr. Ritchie left the Johnson/Burgee office and formed his own practice with David Fiore. After several years, Mr. Ritchie and Mr. Johnson joined forces again, and merged the two offices. The two principals worked closely together over the next ten years until Mr. Johnson’s retirement in 2004. During that time they worked on several projects including the Trump International Hotel and Tower, four residential towers on Riverside Drive, the Ernstand Young headquarters in Rotterdam, Holland, and many others. Upon leaving the firm, Mr. Johnson passed his sixty year legacy of the company to Alan Ritchie. The firm continues the high quality work and reputation for which is known. They have already completed several acclaimed and award-winning projects, including the Metropolitan residential Tower and the Urban Glass House, both in Manhattan, the Ware Center at Millersville University in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, the Sandler Center in Virginia Beach and the Sanctuary for Sufism reoriented in Walnut Creek, CA.
