Wound Innovations delivers support to health care clinicians across Australia. To best meet the needs of the patient and local clinical team this support is delivered via telehealth or face to face. Following all clinical consultations the Wound Innovations clinical team will produce and provide a wound assessment and management guide, with the aims to improve clinical outcomes through education and guidance.As the services national clinical lead I am involved in all clinical matters relating to service development, and as clinical lead, I am also responsible for the provision of clinical advice and support to our rapidly growing national team of clinicians. With the aim of service improvement, I arrange and chair remote monthly clinical meetings, produce service guidelines, communicate the services clinical team daily and support the general manager with all clinical matters.Other duties include:Shortlisting and interviewing,Clinical education (large face to face conference, small group sessions, webinars, bedside etc),Education package development,Clinical assessment and review (face to face, Telehealth),Conservative Sharp Wound Debridement,Prescribing,

Whilst fulfilling my day to day role within a community post acute care wound clinic I also undertook a number of project roles which included:The review of pressure injury prevention strategies within residential aged care,Researching and developing a business case for a community based Nurse Practitioner focused on wound management.

PHARMAC is a governmental body that regulates medical and product applications in New Zealand. This group was established to review current wound care products/therapies with a view to streamlining offerings across New Zealand.

My clinical and staff management roles include:- Establishment and management of the Wound Care Service, which currently has 3.3FTE, offices, an education area and a complex wound care outpatient clinic.- Project management: the establishment of the outpatient clinic, with responsibilities for decision making on aspects from the design of the suite, to sourcing furnishings and overseeing renovation work with contractors.- Clinical lead on a number of projects and a seat on a number of other projects and committees, see descriptions in profile.- Managing a team that provides Senior Nursing to all hospital inpatient departments, as well as supporting 80 Wound Care Resource Nurses throughout the DHB and non-clinical staff.- Improving the management and transfer of patients requiring compression therapy.- Developed the country’s first Conservative Sharp Debridement education pathway for advanced RN scope of practice. - Direct care for complex wound patients that surgical consultants needs additional support with.- I assist the surgical team in the operating theatre and provide them with perioperative advice and assistance. - I provide sharp debridement for inpatients and regularly step in to reduce the surgical lists by reducing the need for surgical intervention in theatre. - Providing increased support for patient living in aged care facilities with complex wound care needs.- Providing increased support and education for General Practice managing wounds in the community.- I have developed an electronic ordering system for pressure relieving equipment and Negative Pressure Wound Therapy units.- Education, including electronic education courses on the Ko Awatea learn platform.- Development of the Wound Care Service intranet and Healthpoint site. - Full day education sessions bi-monthly, in addition to other regular smaller education sessions.- Appraisals for clinical and non-clinical team members, portfolio submissions and reviews.
