Growing up in Johannesburg, South Africa, Alan was surrounded by family members who worked in the medical field. He was deeply inspired by his father, who was a leading stomach specialist & often provided medical care for members of the indigenous community, even when it was illegal to do so. After completing a degree in South Africa, Alan journeyed to the US in pursuit of furthering his education. He would go on to gain his Real Estate Development diploma from San Diego University & an Advanced Management diploma from Stanford University. Shortly after, Alan had the opportunity to be a shareholder & investor with Sterling Medical Products In the USA, allowing him to become familiar with the surgery sector & the supplies needed. He also became involved in a California-based vitamin & herbal supplement company. Looking to be closer to family members who had moved from South Africa, he eventually decided to relocate to Australia. Using his experience in the vitamin industry to his advantage, Alan founded Darwin Health Products, a mail order vitamin products company. The venture was a quick success & he eventually sold the business. Following the sale, Alan became involved in a medical equipment & finance company. He also helped finance one of Oporto's first restaurants. Through this investment, Alan met the company’s chairman, who invited him to be a director & shareholder in GAVS Group, a commercial cleaning company. Since joining GAVS, Alan has helped the company grow its market share in the medical sector, as well as the hospitality industry.
