HI! A little about me: For 25 years I have been a managing attorney and trial lawyer for the Utah Attorney General’s Office (AGO). I've represented our client agency in thousands of hearings and hundreds of bench trials. And I've participated in hundreds of mediations. During the past 10 years I've been a director with the AGO. I've supervised 60 or more different attorneys, paralegals, and other legal professionals in 10 offices within the Child Protection Division. I've directed the child protection legal work in about 80 percent of Utah.I have a Juris Doctor Degree; a Master’s Degree in English with emphasis in technical writing, computer documentation, editing for publication, creative writing (poetry); and a Bachelor’s Degree in English. I taught at the university level for about 15 years as adjunct professor. I also completed a mediation course at the University of Utah and am a qualified mediator with 28 years of mediation experience.I have substantial experience in software development, marketing, distribution, training, and documentation. I worked for four years at Capsoft Development Corporation, a Utah startup company that developed and distributed software that generates computer-automated documents for large law firms. I began as a technical writer, and then I advanced to documentation manager, software trainer, training manager, technical and marketing materials publisher, legal market manager, corporate counsel, and general counsel. The company had 10 employees when I began and about 50 when I left, including the sales force. As legal counsel, I created, reviewed, advised on, and/or managed corporate formation, equity arrangements, vendor and consultant contracts, employment agreements, policy and employee manuals, consulting agreements, training materials, technical and user documentation, and all other written materials. I negotiated agreements with and managed employees, vendors, consultants, outside marketing groups, outside legal counsel, and other partners. I also briefly met and worked with Novell founder and venture capitalist Ray Noorda and his investment company Canopy, along with his legal counsel and staff, on investment issues.Prior to working with Capsoft Development, I was a content editor, copy editor, and desktop publisher in a publishing firm, a technical writer and desktop publisher in other tech companies, and a newspaper editor for Brigham Young University, all of which gave me extensive and varied writing, editing, layout, and other publishing skills and a deep awareness of media, press releases, and news.
