As of 2023, I have worked 7+ years as a backend Java developer, with the latest 2+ years working as a full stack developer and the most recent year as a lead developer managing a team of 6.In 2015, I worked as a backend Java developer on the HANA project for the Department of Human Services (DHS). There I converted reporting modules written in NATURAL code on the mainframe into _Java 6_ code on the HANA system. This entailed creating _Jasper Reports_ with hooks to an _Oracle Database_ and to _QuartzDesk_, the third party solution for generating the converted reports. Following the conversion, I helped update the HANA system by building new screens in _Java Server Pages (JSP)_, deploying EAR files to a _IBM WebSphere Server_ and conducting _User Acceptance Testing_ on every release where we worked closely with the client to gather feedback.The following year, 2016, I was tasked as the sole developer in migrating Hawaii's Board of Water supply's water quality report extract logic off of the VAX mainframe. Within a tight deadline of 2 months, I was able to convert the NATURAL code into _Java 8_ code supported by a _MySQL Database_ running on a _WildFly Server_. For a few months every year until the code handoff in 2020, I continued to generate and update the report extract logic based on new data and requirements. Then in 2018, I worked closely with a COBOL/ADABAS/mainframe expert to update Hawaii's Department of Labor and Industrial Relations' UI-ICON system for unemployment benefits. In a little over a year and through close collaboration with DLIR staff and the Federal HUB, we were able to deprecate the use of Frame Relay on the mainframe for data transfer and replace it with _SOAP XML web services_ written in _Java 8_ running on an _IBM WebSphere server_. Due to the importance of this system, a solution for monitoring the status of the various servers and components was built using _JMeter_ and a _SpringBoot Web Application_ that would send out emails whenever an outage occurred. The UI-ICON monitoring system would prove to be vital during the unemployment claim surges in the 2020 pandemic.After supporting the UI-ICON system through the initial phases of the pandemic, I rejoined the BES project in 2021 for DHS. Here, I not only gained full stack experience by building frontend pages and components in _Vue 2/Quasar_ for backend endpoints, but also leadership experience by guiding one of many teams to develop features in _Agile_ 2 week sprints. As a lead, I learned to gather and consolidate requirements into clear and manageable JIRA tasks.
