A career investigator, Alan is a former Detective Superintendent with Police Scotland and latterly had the portfolio for Major and Organised Crime Operations including homicide, kidnap and corporate crime. He also held responsibility for the investigation of offshore fatalities and major incidents in the North Sea Oil and Gas sector. This afforded him unique exposure to numerous high-profile tragedies and unfortunately all too often highlighted weaknesses of major operators and duty holders to understand and learn from previous failures.This drove Alans passion to improve performance in this arena and during the past 10 years, since leaving the Police, Alan has established himself as a specialist incident investigation and root cause analysis trainer, having delivered numerous programmes in the UK, Europe, UAE, Australia, China and the USA. He has also delivered high level consultancy to assist a number of organisations embed more robust and effective safety management systems.Alan is a regular international conference speaker and recently conceived a quirky and thought-provoking presentation -`Risk Assessing the Perfect Murder`, a unique comparison of traditional industry risk assessment and the thought process planning and executing premediated major crime.
