I joined Samuels Yoelin Kantor LLP as a litigator after 5 years at the District Attorney's office. My litigation caseload was varied - business disputes (partnership dissolution, contract claims, UCC claims, accounting actions, misrepresentation, etc.), real estate matters (pursuing and defending foreclosures, evictions, breach of lease, landlord lien foreclosures, land use hearings at the local level), pursuing and defending unusual personal injury claims (lost ashes of deceased person, waterslide park injuries, 1950's era radiation experiments, etc.) and a few family law matters and criminal defense matters. In the mid-1990's, after almost 20 years in the litigation arena and after having handled many real estate disputes, I transitioned into real estate transactional work and arbitrating and mediating a broad range of cases. I have had the opportunity to assist clients in boom times and in bust times. No one has seen it all, but I've seen a lot. I represent business owners leasing their first locations and then as they expand into more space or buy existing buildings or raw land for construction; landlords as they acquire properties or deal with tenant issues; developers as they form entities to acquire and develop property and find and pursue the appropriate loan for their venture; borrowers as they seek to restructure loans or transactions when the unexpected happens, and others with all sorts of real estate issues.
