Owners engineers lead for the implementation of the AGL Barker Inlet Power station 210 MW reciprocating engine power station near Adelaide. Site based Owner’s Engineer role as Territory Generation’s electrical and controls Manager for the Owen Springs Power Station Expansion Project (10 x 4.4 MW gas fired reciprocating engines) and the Tennant Creek Power Station Upgrade Project (3 x 2 MW gas and 1 x 1.5 MW diesel reciprocating engines). Role includes managing the technical aspects of the EPC Contract, design review management, construction supervision, QA signoff, brownfield integration, commissioning support, negotiations with network provided for generation connection, etc.

Aurecon was engaged by BMD to develop a design for the undergrounding of an existing 66kV overhead line running adjacent to the Palmerston The Heights housing development.The new development at The Heights, Durack, is planned to be a high end, quality lifestyle development. Currently one of Power and Water Corporation’s 66 kV transmission lines traverses the area and is considered unsightly within a residential area. Aurecon was engaged by BMD to develop a design to underground 1500 m of overhead line. The solution entailed installing new overhead to underground poles at each end of the new 1 500 m long underground cable, cutting into the existing overhead line. Rio Tinto have mothballed the ore processing plant at their Alcan Gove operations, which has reduced the network load dramatically. It was no longer economical to run the existing large steam turbines and installed 24 diesel generating sets. The reduction in generation capacity changed the system response to faults and their magnitude dramatically and Alan was required to model fault data and to review all protection settings as majority relays would not operate under the new sets.Tasks Included:Fault study using Paladin Design Base to model the entire Alcan Gove system including NhulunbuyReview and update all protection settings due to the much-reduced fault levels of the smaller diesel units
