The design and construction industry, as it exists in its current state, is unsustainable. Access to materials and labor are increasingly unpredictable; design is often incomplete and fully customized (even within market segments that inherently include repetitious and consistent design elements); and sustainability regulations and customer-oriented goals continue to increase - yet certainty in project pricing, accelerated delivery schedules, and delivery of high-quality buildings remain highly important for our customers.New planning and building techniques are necessary to consistently and predictively bring customer value through a more volatile and unpredictable business environment. The way in which we build needs to be consistent and standardized - and considered as early as the initial design stages. This is especially true in market segments with repetitive building elements such as hospitality, multi-family residential, healthcare, light industrial, and commercial office.The Business Transformation team at Barton Malow is focused on developing new technologies, design/build techniques, and business models that specifically address these challenges in our industry. Rather than react differently to each project with an entirely unique design, we provide resources during the design stages that lead us to more efficient and predictable project outcomes. Our aim is not to take ownership of design intent; but to reduce or entirely eliminate the complexities of how design intent translates into project decision-making, engineering analysis, constructability, and quality of work we put in place. We are achieving this vision through strategic design, trade, and manufacturing partnerships which enable us to directly access upstream sectors of the supply chain and create attractive downstream labor conditions on and off the site. Additionally, we are leveraging design & engineering automation techniques to rapidly accelerate project planning productivity while bringing greater confidence to critical customer decisions.
