Responsible for the operational management of the College estate function, health and safety, the delivery of minor and major works projects.

I am the Head of the Design and Consultancy Team which carry out and Project Manage all of the New Build and Major Refurbishment Schemes for the Northern Trusts Capital Programme of Works. I manage a team of staff, 4 Architectural Project Managers, 2 Mechanical and Electrical Project Managers, 1 Estates Business Manager and Admin and Clerical Support Staff, that deliver the Trusts Capital Works Construction Schemes. These schemes vary in size and complexity from office refurbishments and fit outs, children’s care homes to psychiatric intensive care unit, Accident and Emergency new build expansion, palliative care suite and hospital general wards. My team assist the service providers with the formulation of design briefs and provide scheme design proposals and detailed working drawings using AutoCAD for the Estates Department Lead Capital Works Schemes, prepare contract documentation, advertise for and short list contractors, assess tender returns, prepare tender reports, appoint contractors, administer building contracts, including all variations, payment certificates, final account and budgeting control of the projects in compliance with the Trust's contract procedures and standing financial instructions. My team by the end of March 2013 will have successfully delivered in access of £10million worth of Capital Schemes for the Northern Trust

I was the Capital Development Section Project Manager for New Build and Major Refurbishment. My responsibilities in the Development Section were to:Provide scheme design proposals and detailed work drawings using AutoCAD for the Estates Department lead Capital Works Schemes, prepare contract documentation, short list contractors, assess tender returns, prepare tender reports, appoint contractors, administer building contracts, including all variations, payment certificates, final account and budgeting control of the projects in compliance with the Trust's contract procedures and standing financial instructions. Chair site meetings, write minutes and resolve issues and queries as they arise on site. Ensure compliance with all statutory standards in relation to all work or projects for which I am responsible. Carry out surveys on existing building stock annually to assess the condition and performance using the Ceri Davis Surveying Method and provide costing information for upgrading in line with current legislation including DDA. Report on my findings and input into the preparation of the building maintenance plan, business plan, capital, and back-log maintenance programme. Liaise as required with the Fire Safety Advisor and others as required in relation to the requirements and recommendations with the Fire Authority of Northern Ireland, the Department of Economic Development Health and Safety Inspectorate and Local Authority Building Control Departments in respect of fire prevention.

I was an architectural assistant in the New Works Section of the Northern Ireland Executive. I prepared working drawings, details and specifications for new builds, major maintenance and refurbishment schemes for different types of government buildings from residential accommodation to office fit outs. I attended site meetings, instructed contractors and assisted in the general running of these contracts when on site. I surveyed and drew up existing plans for all of these schemes and assisted the Land Surveying Department using a total ground station to survey all sites, drainage systems and services both above and underground.
