As a Director at Benoy I am responsible together with the other directors for overseeing the smooth operations of the HK office. In addition I also manage a team of 30+ professional staff consisting of Architects and assistants. In addition to client interfacing and marketing duties I am responsible for the design direction and contract administration of a diverse range of projects in China, Hong Kong and South East Asia. My project portfolio includes Retail destinations, Mixed use destinations, Architectural Master Planning, Hotels, Retail Mall Renovations, HK Airport Alterations & Additions work and Competitions including the 2013 M+ Museum of visual culture at the West Kowloon Cultural District, HK where we collaborated with Toyo Ito Architects. Our scheme was selected as one of the 6 shortlisted finalists in this international competition which attracted over 80 entries from across the world.

I was the projects director with hands on responsibility for the design process for all architectural and interior projects and proposals including competitions in HK and the PRC. Being an Authorized Person (Architect) in HK I was responsible for local government submissions, project and contract administration of all Architectural and Interior projects. I managed architectural/Interior teams and coordinated with mulit-disciplined consultant teams in and out of HK to deliver projects on time and within budget whilst maintaining initial design intents and quality.

At SL+A Architects I was responsible for Concept/Detailed Design, Government Submissions, Contract Administration & Preparation of Proposals & Marketing. I was seconded to the Airport Authority for half a year to help formulate a brief for their new headquarters bldg. I also worked closely with the SL+A Hotels group on HK MTRC Hotel projects and also on other Hotels projects in across South East Asia including the Phillippines, Vietnam etc. where I coordinated with their local consultant teams.

Tom Ip and Partners was the first company I worked for upon arriving in HK. I gained valuable experience designing and running 3 building projects concurrently. A residential tower in Sheung Wan, an Office tower in Wan Chai and an Industrial tower in Tuen Wan. I was responsible for putting together design concept packages, all government submissions, tenders and contract administration.The valuable experience helped me to successfully gain my HKIA and Authorized Person licenses.

The economy was not good in 1991 so I started my own practice building upon the small scale residential buildings and extensions I had worked on whilst at Robert Shaw and Partners.Whilst the work was limited I gained valuable experience on how to run a business.Shortly after the first year it was obvious that the UK economy was not getting any better and I had to consider overseas as a good business strategy.

I joined this international American practice, based in the UK, for my practical training year following completion of my first degree. The invaluable experience enabled me to understand the connection between theory and practice. By the end of my year out I was asked to continue at the practice on a part time basis whilst studying for my post graduate diploma in atchitecture. By the end of my 2nd year at the company whilst still a student I was supervising the work of a team of 4 architectural technicians.My main areas of responsibility were surveys, architectural and interior design development, coordination with suppliers and consultants, assist in the preparation of government submissions and assistance with contract administration duties. The major project I was working on at the time was the Southwood Sumit Centre in the UK.
