I became a carpenter in quite a traditional way. I took one of my father's old hammers and nail aprons, bought a new tape measure and walked onto a job site. I discovered a deep love of building and the temperament and adaptability needed to switch from field to office and back if necessary. And while I don't swing a hammer as much as I used to, the principles building that I learned back in the day transfer to everything else I work on and I will always be a carpenter at heart.
