Director of the Textile Recycling Association (see www.textile-recycling.org.uk), the UK national trade association for collectors, processors and exporters of used clothing and textiles.I represent the United Kingdom on the Textile's Division of the Bureau of International Recycling where I also hold the official post of General Delegate (General Secretary).Government Adviser - I sit on DEFRA's Resources and Waste Strategy Advisory Group and I have given evidence to UK Parliamentary select committees. I have also held meetings and taken part in events with Members of the European Parliament and lobbied other international governmental bodies.Additionally I represent the Textile Recycling Association on the steering group of WRAP's Sustainable Clothing Action Plan.Media Experience - I make regular contributions to the print media and provide regular market updates to the recycling trade press. I have also appeared on national and international broadcast media (radio and television) as a leading expert on the used clothing and textile recycling industry.Development of Industry Standards - I am a founding member of the steering group that has established the TRUST standard. A brand new industry standard that independently audits collectors/sorters of used clothing/textiles and other products. It covers health and safety practices, compliance with environmental law, employment law and labour standards, sound business practice and transportation.Presentation and panel discussions - I have a significant amount of experience in delivering presentations often in front of hundreds of people and throughout the years I have chaired and taken part in panel discussions at national and international events.Chairmanship - I have considerable experience of chairing various forums and meetings

Founded in 1948, The Bureau of International Recycling (BIR) was the first federation to support the interests of the recycling industry on an international scale. Today, BIR represents over 760 member companies from the private sector and 36 national associations in more than 70 countries. Together, these members form the largest international recycling federation.As General Delegate of the Textiles Division I have a number of official roles and responsibilities including:• Having a full understanding of the Statutes, By-Laws, Internal Rules, Code of Conduct and Arbitration Rules of the BIR,• Working with the Director General of the BIR and Chairman of the By-laws Committee to interpret the workings of the Organisation.• Having responsibility for working with the Textiles Division President to operate the Division in accordance with the rules of the BIR.• Providing guidance to new Division Presidents, Vice-Presidents and Board Members to ensure that they adhere to the BIR rules and regulations.• Informing the BIR Director General of any Division actions or rule changes that have been agreed by the Division's board members in a prompt manner.• Ensuring that they can be communicated by the Director General at all times.• Having to attend all meetings concerning environmental matters that take place during BIR congress meetings throughout the world.• Informing the Textiles Division members of all environmental matters that concern the textile recycling industry.• Ensuring that they are in communication with the BIR Environmental Director on a regular basis.

The Mattress Recycling Association Ltd is a not-for-profit company. Its primary focus currently is to establish the Register of Approved Mattress Recyclers (RAMR). Mattress recycling businesses that wish to seek admission to RAMR will be subject to regular independent audits which look at health and safety, employment practices and labour standards, compliance with labour standards, traceability of end markets and compliance with their legal duty of care under the Environmental Protection Act, the Waste Framework Directive and other key pieces of environmental legilslation.
