Educated at South Peninsula High School and UCT, Alan developed an interest in African literature which he taught for 5 years. Later he became Creative Director at e.tv, winning a PROMAX Gold Award at Los Angeles 2002. Since then he worked as a scriptwriter for productions broadcast on e.tv and SABC and MNET and as a freelance commercial copywriter. He completed two 48 min documentaries for SABC2 May 2009 and was South African producer for the short film on the l’Oreal Unesco 2009 Woman In Science Laureate and the Laureate film for 2012. Alan Wilcox and George Hallet completed “Jazz Rocks” a book of photographic essays by Rashid Lombard (Safika Highbury, April 2010). He works as a copywriter for espAfrika (Cape Town International Jazz festival, Luanda International Jazz festival)in 2013 he produced and directed the marine conservation short film "Die Hoop" and worked as casting director and assistant director for Dream School South Africa, an education reality series.In 2014 he produced and directed documentaries for Fox Crime AfricaSpecialties: music, natural history, documentary dramatic re-enactments

Documentary Director/ProducerSabc (Independent Producer) May 2007 - May 2009In 2009 I completed two 48-minute documentary films - "Ancestors" for SABC 2 and worked closely with scientists in the fields of genetics and archaeology. The films explored origins and settlements of humans 70-160 000 yrs ago and the peopling of Southern Africa in the last 2000 years. Against the backdrop of modern conflicts, identities and forced migration we examined the tensions between science and social realities today.
