Offshore Bike Bits is a busy multi-franchise motorcycle dealership in central St Helier. It's activities include new and used machine sales, servicing, tyre supply and fitting, self drive rental, new and used parts supply, accessories and clothing. There is also a mail order division.I am directly responsible to the business owner for all aspects of day-to-day operation including shop management, workshop scheduling and management, parts and accessories procurement and inventory management, pricing policies, staff management and training. I am also in charge of all new vehicle registrations and liasion with DVS over all related mattersIt's a dynamic environment with no two days the same, and requires the ability to respond quickly to developments as they occur. A good portion of the role is customer facing, and this sometimes requires a delicate and occasionally firm hand. Swift and effective communication with both customers and colleagues is paramount.

Freeway Fleet systems provide Enterprise level fleet management systems to manage a wide variety of vehicle fleets, primarily in the bus, coach and truck sectors.Much of their sales and marketing activities are geared around face to face exhibitions and other events in these sectors. My role was to maintain key market intelligence, develop relationships with potential clients and encourage senior personnel to attend them.This is a marketplace where sales cycles can be prolonged, but contracts once signed tend to run for many years, sometimes many decades. I'm pleased that a number of prospective clients are now firmly establised Freeway users, and that my input has helped Freeway establish itself as the worldwide market leader for such solutions in the Bus & Coach sector.This was a part time Ad-hoc role whilst caring for a close relative who was terminally ill.

I was involved with Logical Transport Ltd, a specialist transportation software company, from it's conception in 1995 and subsequently for a 20 year period. I was solely responsible for all aspects of business planning and finance, high level software design and account management. We identified and exploited a niche in the market for transport to manage both planned and ad-hoc demand led transport across many sectors including special needs, custodial, military and airport shuttles. I have considerable experience in preparing and winning bids for substantial and complex projects working for, and in partnership with, organisations such as City Councils, Department for Transport, G4S, Ministry of Justice UK, National Express, Vodafone, HCT Group, BAe Systems, Babcock & UK MoD.Working with such high calibre clients was a genuine pleasure, and we achieved many firsts such as the UK's first integrated booking scheduling and communications system for demand responsive staff transport for Vodafone in Oxfordshire.Other notable installations included:- a large and complex nationwide scheduling and communications system for G4S to manage immigration detentions and removals UK wide on behalf of the Ministry of Justice- a car park shuttle management system at London Stansted for National Express- a demand responsive Airport Shuttle Management System at London Heathrow, also for National Express- a large vehicle management and allocation system at HM Dockyard Portsmouth for BAe Systems- a similar but more expansive system covering a large number of MoD bases across Southern England for Babcock PLC

I embraced the entrepreneurial spirit of the age, and conceived and brought to fruition a new sameday courier company designed to serve the new generation of businesses and financial institutions emerging in London's Docklands.We went from zero to break even in 6 weeks, and managed to achieve a profitable and sustainable operation in a very volatile marketplace. We boasted many Blue Chip clients such as leading law firms (Freshfields, Clyde & Co.,Clifford Chance) accountants (Ernst & Young), Crown Prosecution Service and Rank Xerox.The business was eventually sold to West 1 Couriers, the largest operator in London at the time.
