About Alana Ruakere
With over ten years of experience in leading and managing complex and high-impact programmes and projects in the health and social services sector, I am passionate about improving the wellbeing and outcomes of our communities, especially Maori. As the Chief Executive of Tui Ora, the largest community-based health and social services provider in Taranaki, I oversee more than 35 services and programmes that are available to everyone within our geographical boundaries. I am committed to upholding the values and vision of Tui Ora, which is to empower whanau to achieve their aspirations and potential. I bring diverse perspectives and experiences to the team, having worked with different agencies, iwi, and stakeholders across the sector.Prior to joining Tui Ora in January 2023, I was the Director of the Crown Response Unit for the Abuse in Care Inquiry at Oranga Tamariki - Ministry for Children, where I led the Crown response to the Royal Commission of Inquiry into Historical Abuse in State Care and in the Care of Faith-based Institutions. This was a challenging and rewarding role that required strong leadership, collaboration as well as sensitivity, empathy, and integrity.
