Career BreakN/A Nov 2002 - Jan 2005UkHaving project managed the sale of Oxtel to Miranda Technologies, Canada, I decided to take a sabbatical in order to fulfil some long-desired ambitions including: tours of Europe and The World, renovating a home and attending one-to-one oil painting tuition.During this period I also co-formed a continuation of the Entrepreneurial Team Network (ETN), a focus group which had been established in 2000 by the renowned Henley Management College (now part of Reading University), to investigate the value of providing a forum for entrepreneurs to meet and develop their thinking. When the two-year project finished, a number of us who had been part of the network continued meeting on a regular basis. Activities included discussing business concepts and giving informal help to those who needed it. Through ETN I was invited to join the monthly board meetings of a country house hotel to help advise, propose solutions and contribute to the decision making process.

Within a year of joining, I was asked to report directly to the group’s board, bypassing Seltech’s CEO. I would attend most board meetings. At this point, my customer and product bases were widened and I took on the management of several sales engineers.
