Junior Chief Engineer
The safe, efficient organisation and economical operation of the engine department. Organise the engineering officers and ratings respective duties and hours of work in accordance with the Crew Agreement, the Hours of Work Regulations and conditions of service. In the absence of the Senior Chief Engineer and in conjunction with the duty Master compliance with all Class and Flag certification and arranging necessary surveys to maintain all certification. Managing matters of discipline relating to the officers and ratings of the Engineering department. The welfare of the officers and ratings of his department and when possible is to assist in the education and training of junior officers, cadets and ratings. Ensuring that the Company’s regulations affecting the Engineering department are carried out. Enforcing all orders issued to him by the Master and will keep him informed of all matters connected with the Engineering Department. Ensure regular inspection of the machinery spaces are being conducted, funnel spaces, engine room store rooms, ventilation machinery rooms, deck machinery rooms etc. The proper working of and all repairs of all the ship’s machinery and in particular for the main engine(s), gear boxes, boilers, propeller(s), auxiliaries, deck machinery (including winches, ramps, cranes, lifts, ventilation fans etc.) and all electrical equipment including lighting and wiring. Comply with all relevant Company Regulations, Classification Society notices and pending surveys (Continuous Machinery Surveys), National and International regulations appertaining to his department. Ensuring Engineering department records, drawings and manufacturers' instructions, together with such precision instruments and tools given to his care are kept safe. He shall maintain and update continuous machinery surveys keeping accurate records. Be familiar with the relevant parts, procedures and requirements of the SMS contained within the Docmap system
2Nd Engineer
Ensure regular inspection of the machinery spaces are being conducted, funnel spaces, engine room store rooms, ventilation machinery rooms, deck machinery rooms etc. The proper working of and all repairs of all the ship’s machinery and in particular for the main engine(s), gear boxes, boilers, propeller(s), auxiliaries, deck machinery (including winches, ramps, cranes, lifts, ventilation fans etc.) and all electrical equipment including lighting and wiring whether in the accommodation or elsewhere. Ensure the good working order of all lifeboat and rescue boat motors; galley and pantry equipment; steam, electrical, air or fuel connections and/or machinery; laundry machinery, domestic refrigerators and refrigerated containers where carried.Ensuring all machinery protection devices, including alarms and safety shut downs are maintained in operational condition. The implementation of the Planned Maintenance System, ensuring maintenance, tests and checks are carried out. The status and review of the planned maintenance system, and the correct and proper maintenance of records. The administration of the planned maintenance system.The repair of passenger accommodation and maintenance of hotel services (plumbing, air conditioning, galley equipment etc.) and must liaise with the OSS Manager and Chief Officer to ensure passengers' safety, comfort and wellbeing. The immediate readiness of Fire Fighting equipment, and ensure that all equipment is in a fit condition.
3Rd Engineer/Relief 2Nd Engineer
Permanent 3rd Engineer with 2nd Engineer Unlimited License covering 2nd Engineer position on a regular basis.• Watch-keeping of main engines, generators, shaft generators, boilers and all auxiliary equipment.• Carrying out maintenance on board as directed by the Second engineer in accordance with the vessel`s Planned Maintenance Program (AMOS).• Managing all identified risk to ship, personnel and environment and establish appropriate safeguards by using IRIS risk assessments and DOCMAP for permits to work, checklists and procedures.• Reporting to the Second engineer, any incident or accident relating to any injury or potential hazard aboard along with any deficiencies in machinery or equipment particularly safety equipment.
2Nd/3Rd/Hse Engineer
- Independent watch-keeping of the Engine Room when the main generators, propulsion motors and the boiler are under operation simultaneously with all the other auxiliary machinery such as, pumps, air compressors, fuel and lube oil purifiers, evaporators and fresh water systems, heat exchangers, air conditioning plant and refrigeration plant, sewage treatment plant, incinerator, etc.- Experience of managing Motorman/3rd Engineer (when covering 2nd Engineer position) for the above mentioned duties, in addition to the general watch-keeping of the Engine Room.- Maintaining a record of activities undertaken and the spare parts used and required in the Engine Room through the Ship’s planned maintenance system software.- Interpreting the technical drawings to troubleshoot problems and for isolation, maintenance and overhauling activities.- Accurately recording all vital plant information, take and record all fuel, lube, and water soundings, and know the amount and location of all bulk materials on the vessel.- In charge under the supervision of the Chief Engineer for the bunkering of fuel and gas oil, including the testing, on to the ship and then gas oil into the tenders during anchor ports when running passengers ashore.- Responsible for routine maintenance of the machinery and equipment, including changing oil and filters, greasing the steering gear/stabilizers, weekly safety checks of the Emergency Generators and Lifeboats, etc, testing and maintaining proper levels of diesel engine water treatment, and taking and mailing of lube oil samples.- Accountable/planning of the maintenance and repair of several large galleys, ships main and satellite laundries, multiple swimming pool and Jacuzzi areas and several types of lifeboat, tenders and FRCs during time as Hotel Service Engineer.
Engineer Cadet
- Completed 2 trips on board CMA-CGM La Tour and CMA-CGM Wagner during my cadetship to complete my training, including training portfolio and practical experience that would not of been able to of been taught at college. - Training tasks included: Maintenance and overhaul of certain machinery and equipment along with the practical side of starting and stopping generators and main engine both in the ECR and locally. Also all safety tasks were included to supplement the training courses attended shore side.- This also included a 22 day dry-dock in Hamburg, for the CMA-CGM La Tour’s first dry dock where I assisted the team in changing all main engine bearings.
