I was 22 years old and a first-time manager. One thing I was nervous about was giving feedback to my team, and sure enough, the first week I had to "have a talk" with a direct report who had about 10 years more work experience than I had. The day after I provided the feedback, the colleague pulled me aside and thanked me for being sensitive and respectful during our meeting. I view this as the beginning of my journey in coaching and talent development. Flash forward about 30 years, and I have built an entire career based in developing and coaching teams and clients. Why did I make this my career? Because I love doing it and I love working with organizations that value it. To have that alignment means that I can help individuals grow in their careers and help organizations engage, develop, and retain their highest performers. These two goals and achievements are what keep me energized to help people and organizations perform at their very best.
