I represent businesses and individuals in complex disputes in which the stakes are high: the survival of a business, the preservation of valuable rights in patents, trademarks, trade secrets and other intellectual property, a professional's valuable repuation, or even individual liberty itself is often at stake. My clients come from all walks of life. I won back the rights to Muhammad Ali's life story from a former manager and lawyer who had obtained them from him by trickery. I have defended elected officials, bankers, doctors, dentists, lawyers, judges, investors, environmental remediation professionals and real estate professionals in federal and state investigations and criminal prosecutions. I have litigated numerous patent cases, including one in which all issued patents on one of the world's top ten-selling drugs were invalidated. I often represent family members and business partners engaged in difficult disputes regarding the control of closely-held businesses or the activities of family trusts and estates, including before Delaware’s Court of Chancery.What I try to bring to each of these matters, whether the client is large or small, world famous or laboring in anonymity, is the benefit of 30 years' experience in getting complex disputes resolved as quickly and cost-effectively as is possible. Sometimes a full trial on the merits is the only means to get a complex matter fully and finally resolved, but I have found through the years that being prepared to go to trial is the best recipe for getting a dispute resolved prior to trial.
