About Alan Deforest

Looking for opportunities in the maritime industry in the areas of boat repair, marina services and boat livery services. I have a breadth of electrical and manufacturing experience to transfer to the marine industry especially to operations and maintenance. I bring over 7 years of USCG Auxiliary boat crew and boating safety training experience. I am an experienced woodworker with boat building and restoration, including engine operation and maintenance and electrical systems install and repair.I have been a manufacturing professional with experience in a number of industrial settings. A generalist at heart and always curious about how processes are performed and how they may apply to improving what work is at hand. I am able to communicate across the organization from upper management to the general workforce. This was most useful during a five year period as an independent consultant presenting, contracting and then delivering manufacturing services. I learned many of these skills while working in the aerospace industry and engaged in test equipment costing, scheduling, design, and construction. This activity required the close collaboration of management, engineering, tooling designers, operators and suppliers.I have also worked closely with top management to provide engineering and quality programs as a consultant and delivered the services through training, project management or as an adjunct resource.Projects range from ISO Quality program implementation, operator training, shop floor planning, maintenance software implementation, project management and quality services. I provide these services with a toolbox of quality and engineering talents that include electrical/electronic design, lean manufacturing skills, training experience, shop floor/plant layout and quality engineering. I am proficient with MS Office, with strong experience in SolidWorks, and Inventor modeling software packages. I have been certified as a lead trainer in manual soldering, and electronic products assembly and inspection through NASA and IPC and trained as a lean manufacturing trainer through the Manufacturing Extension Partnership. As a BSI trained lead auditor I have performed internal audits and trained others to become auditors.Specialties: ISO Implementation, Shop Floor Operations, Lean Manufacturing, Process Improvement, Electrical and Electronic Soldering Evaluation and Training, Supplier Auditing, Process FMEA and Forensics.

Listed skills include Lean Manufacturing, Manufacturing, Engineering, Project Management, and 23 others.
