I moved to North America to both formally establish Nomads presence in the region and to develop relationships with key customers. The first success in the region was with the award, in October 2010, of a framework contract with Amtrak to provide communication services over their passenger fleet. This required rapid expansion of the local team from two when incorporated to its current size of 55 during this time I was a key member of the management team and instrumental in the growth of the business and development of long term contracts with a total value of over $150m.My responsibilities include the management of a multi-disciplined team to undertake:• Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Design• System and Networking Engineering• Pre-Sales engineering design and pricing• System analysis and testing• Fleet deployment support• Fleet third-line support

During Nomads startup and initial expansion phase I have overseen all design and approvals issues and to ensure consistency across projects and regions. I have worked worked closely with hardware manufacturers to ensure that all equipment used meet the national and industry approvals that are appropriate to the region. This has included EN (Europe), NF (French), DIN (German), FRA/ AAR/ FCC/ ANSI (USA and Canada), GOST (Russia/ Central Europe). I prepared, and submitted, Nomad Safety Case a to allow the deployment of the core train system and also the use of various WiMAX and other licensed and un-licensed transmission technologies across the entire UK network. This acted as the cornerstone for all UK deployments and is recognized within Europe and beyond.

Within Halcrow I was retained by clients to provide a wide range of services ranging from:-• Technical design• Project Management• Railway Approvals• Railway commercial modeling and analysis (part of UK Railway Franchising)All of these roles required both in-depth technical knowledge of train design and mandatory legislative and industry regulations and practices. I have worked for a range of train owners, maintainers, builders, operators and regulators and developed though this an end-to-end knowledge of all aspects of train operations.

Within PB I was part of a new group established to develop and create a group specializing in Train Systems Engineering. This required both identifying and creating a market strategy and also recruiting skilled engineers to grow the team. Worked for the UK Infrastructure Controller (Network Rail) as consultant within their Train Protection Development (TPD) group to provide analytical support for next generation signaling systems.

Part of the specialist Electrical Engineering group. Responsible for several design projects including early trials of TPWS then later part of the deployment team that was put in place to undertake an accelerated deployment of the TPWS system to the UK fleet.Specialist work areas:-• Electrical Engineering• Reliability Engineering (FMECA, FTA etc)• Project Management

Joined Engineering Link after graduating and was part of the Management Buy Out (MBO) team that bought the business from the UK Department of Transport during the UK railway privatization process. Worked within the engineering group as a specialist Electrical Engineer and provided specialist design and engineering support for multiple projects.
