Lecturer
I lecture screenwriting to undergraduate students as part of the campus' film-making programme, using short film as the main route to teach students about the fundamentals of character, plot, research and form.
Script Consultant
Having worked as a script editor, script reader, film festival programmer and of course writer for the past nine years, I've increasingly been offering my services on a freelance basis. With a background in theatre, film, television, radio and prose I offer writers one-off or long-term support for their scripts, from initial concept through to final drafts and on to pitch documents and meetings. If you've an interest in developing your stories, feel free to get in touch, and more details at the link attached.
Writer / Script Editor / Producer
Big Finish Productions produce audio drama spin-offs for some of the most well-loved television shows -- including Doctor Who, The Avengers and Blake's 7 -- as well as their own original content.I originally started working as a script editor on Dark Shadows, the audio spin-off of the cult American soap opera, which uses original cast members and takes the stories beyond the scope of the original show. After working on two series' of stories as a script editor, I was taken on as a writer for hour-long episode 'Carriage Of The Damned', and then went on to be one of three writers on 'Dark Shadows: Bloodlust'. 'Bloodlust' was a 13-episode fully serialised drama which earned five-star reviews and topped the Amazon horror audio best-seller list throughout its release schedule.Since then I've been promoted to a commissioning role for two upcoming series, securing writers and actors and coordianating production schedules -- while also being a writer and script editor for these and upcoming 'Bloodlust' sequel 'Bloodline', I've been central to forty hours of scripted content.Beyond Dark Shadows, I've also recently had the opportunity to cross over to Big FInish's work on Doctor Who by writing an upcoming episode, as well as writing a Christmas special for their Dorian Gray series.
Scriptwriter
I'm an Irish writer for both drama and comedy across television and radio productions. I've worked on the Dark Shadows series of audio dramas for Big Finish Productions since 2013 where I also co-created the successful Dark Shadows: Bloodlust miniseries and is now Head Writer for the upcoming DS specials series Quentin & Maggie and Tony & Cassandra. Since graduating with an MA in Scriptwriting from Goldsmiths, I have also written a number of theatre productions, worked as a script editor and am a visiting lecturer in screenwriting at Brighton University. I'm now turning my talents and energy to my own projects and am actively developing a number of TV drama series.
Lecturer
I lecture screenwriting to undergraduate students as part of the Hastings campus' film-making programme, using short film as the main route to teach students about the fundamentals of character, plot, research and form.Using my seven years experience working across various media as a writer and script editor, I encourage students to build stories from character outwards, observing work they admire to help fine-tune their own work, as well as encompassing aspects of pitching and industry interaction that will help them going forward.
Tutor
Since joining Greater London Tutors in April 2014 I have worked as a tutor in Maths, English and 11+ preparation in schools and homes across London, working with children from 6-16 and at various levels of ability.I have taught intensive courses in the 11+ exams, GCSE Maths and GCSE English, while also providing guidance to students who want to know more about creative writing and working in the creative arts.
Artistic Director
In 2012 I established the Dublin-based Refractive Lens Theatre, dedicated to creating new work and giving a new voices a chance to break into the Irish and international scene. Our first show, 'Irreconcilable Differences', premiered to 4-star reviews at the Edinburgh Fringe 2012, and since then we've gone on to produce shows at the Edinburgh Fringe and the International Dublin Gay Theatre Festival.Through the company, I have had several shows that I've written produced, and performed one-man show 'Dupont & Davenport' at the 2014 Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
Programmer / Script Reader
I originally joined WildSound as the programmer for their monthly film festival, curating a group of short films for a crowd of around 150 regular audience members. This would require a balance of comedy, drama, and other genre pieces, while also helping to host the event itself -- and particularly the final section of the evening, where high quality scripts were performed by actors and writers were given audience feedback. When I moved from Toronto in 2012 I could no longer programme the festival, but moved into the company's competition wing. Here I began reading short films scripts, features, TV pilots, plays and more to be considered for the WildSound competitions - with winners receiving staged performances of their work at the monthly festival. I have delivered feedback to hundreds of writers in this way, identifying areas where character, plotting or structure could be improved, as well as taking on development work with certain writers who wish to work with me more closely.
Teaching Assistant
Sugarman Education provide high-quality teaching assistants throughout the London area, and I began work with them being placed in various primary and secondary schools and throwing myself into new classrooms with new students on a day-to-day basis. In May 2013, however, I began work in Phoenix, a special needs school in Mile End, and was almost immediately taken on in a semi-permanent role. I initially worked with very young children in their early years department, and then in September 2013 moved to working with 10-11 years. As a school for children with pronounced autism, the work could be challenging but was consistently rewarding.
