I have been an executive coach, a college professor, a consultant, and an entrepreneur. After receivingmy PhD in Industrial Psychology from Wayne State University, I held professorships at Carnegie-Mellon, Oakland University, and Canisius College. At Canisius, I chaired the Management & MarketingDepartment, founded the Center for Entrepreneurship, The Institute for Family Business, andEntrepreneurs on Campus. In 1986, I co-founded Lasertron, an entertainment company thatmanufactures and manages laser-tag court games. In 1992, I started the first Vistage group in WesternNew York and currently chair a Vistage CEO and a KEY group. I worked closely with several non-profitcultural organizations to enhance collaboration, enabling them to survive financially while flourishingartistically. I have served on boards of directors including Perry’s Ice Cream, Lasertron, Stride Tool andCiminelli Development. For several years, I co-wrote a column in Buffalo Business First, “Owner andCoach,” with Jim Cipriani, Jr.In 2013, I published a book, Executive Coaching and the Process of Change. The book and blogs on itswebsite offer case studies on how coaching can help leaders become more effective. In 2018, Don Rust and I published a book, Unleashing Human Energy through Culture Change. This book describes how a large General Motors engine plant transformed itself from a toxic culture and near closure to a healthy culture, setting a world record in productivity. The book and blogs on its website offer specific actions necessary for success, including qualities of leaders who engage in culture change.I have won several awards for my work, including nominations for Entrepreneur of the Year Award andPrice Babson’s Edwin A. Appel Award for my work in entrepreneurial education. At Canisius College, Iwas twice selected the Donald Calvert Outstanding Professor by MBA students. I have worked withfamily businesses, entrepreneurs, and entrepreneurial educators on five continents.
