About Alan H. Duong

Aerospace and Mechanical Engineer with a strong experimental background and solid experience in numerical modeling and tool development.I earned my doctoral degree in Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering from the University of Notre Dame in which my thesis work contributed to the understanding of a decades-old problem of turbulent boundary layer viscous drag reduction . Before that, I was a first generation college student at Kansas State University where I was a McNair Scholar and a recipient of the Dept. of Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering Outstanding Senior Award. In Oct. 2019, I started my post-graduate career as an Aerospace Engineer at Cornerstone Research Group, Inc. In my capacity at CRG, I have been involved in a multitude of programs which include aircraft design and development, numerical modeling, experimental testing, and design tool development. I have executed technical and programmatic work on numerous DoD SBIR/STTR contracts across different disciplines and have been an active participant in proposal writing and securing new contracts.I am now an Aerodynamic Design Engineer for Accessible Technologies, Inc. specializing in compressor design for high efficiency blowers.

Listed skills include Certified Solidworks Associate, Research, Eclipse Java, Mathematica, and 14 others.

Oct 2019 - Sep 2024

Graduate Research Assistant | Ph.D. Candidate

Hessert Laboratory For Aerospace Research

PhD Thesis Title: Active Turbulent Boundary Layer Control: An Experimental Evaluation Of Viscous Drag Reduction Using Pulsed-DC Plasma ActuatorsDesigned and conducted experiments for zero pressure gradient turbulent boundary layer drag reduction. Achieved viscous drag reduction at high freestream Mach numbers (comparable to flight conditions) and characterized underlying flow physics. Designed, prototyped and fabricated several electronic devices such has low-pass filters, hot-wire anemometers, etc. used extensively in experimental fluid dynamics research. Experienced in signal processing and data analysis.Trained and mentored undergraduate and graduate students in experimental techniques and analog circuit design. Consulted on numerous experimental studies which utilized plasma flow control.
