Headed the development of four different molecular and cellular biology applications, including the development of Western blot, immunocytochemistry, and DNA molecular biology protocols. - Led the development process and coordinated deliverables with a realistic timeline that resulted in an optimized solution for the client. Modified the process development by visiting the customer site and taking into account the limitations at the site of operation. - Coached, guided and advised clients and junior team members on setup, method development, process application, and result analysis. This was done with timely and effective training that included a detailed explanation of the scientific concept, technical discussion of the operation procedure, and a presentation on challenging cases. As a demonstration of success, clients and junior staffs were able to work independently with minimal supervision.

My PhD project focuses on the bioproduction, downstream processing and functional characterization of protein biologics and antibodies in the context of viral immune evasion and viral evolution.- Developed and written standard operating procedures on three protein characterization techniques that resulted in an invited oral technical presentation describing the field application of the technology at a company-sponsored event to an audience of ~ 100 scientists from both industry and academia.- Coordinated a collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team of physicians, public health agencies and academics to analyze patient respiratory samples. As a demonstration of the success of this collaboration, our team had identified new and emerging seasonal variations of a virus circulating in the human population. The data supports the evolution of the virus resulted from immune escape.- Managed and co-supervised the production of over 20 different monoclonal IgG antibodies produced from hybridoma and mammalian cells with phage display origin.- Developed protocols for large scale recombinant human and viral proteins protein expression in mammalian cells. As a demonstration of success in this area: increased production yield of ~2-4 fold and decreased purification time by ~1/3 for many targets.- Functionally and biochemically analyzed various properties of antibodies and biologics using various biophysical techniques.A side project focuses on evaluating the mechanism of action of potential small molecule anti-cancer drugs and angiogenesis inhibitors.- Evaluated the properties of peptides and peptide mimetic inhibitors on a potential chemotherapy target.- Designed new lead compounds with improved properties of inhibition to the target protein.- Solved X-ray crystal structures of the target protein with peptides and various peptide mimetic inhibitors.

Course BCH471/BCH478- Co-initiated and developed the protein crystallography section for a university undergraduate lab course that needed to be updated to better prepare undergraduate students for graduate work.- Devised and written the lab protocol that involves using multiple computer algorithms to determine protein structures and received positive feedback from students on the ease of use of the training document with minimal supervision.- Implemented the new curriculum that involved the crystallization and structure determination of proteins in a 2-months period.- Delivered and taught the new curriculum to educate undergraduate students that resulted in positive feedback for a more integrated lab experience.- Communicated effectively between course coordinator, technical support staffs and students to deliver the training protocol and the course.

Served as a subject matter expert and performed consultation duties on antibody usage and characterization; scientific output ranked in the top 20 percentile among colleagues. - Identified two emerging opportunities where the company can offer value-added services to expand their analytical platform. Communicated with senior staffs that led to the inclusion of these technologies into the company’s artificial intelligence search platform, which led to increased offerings and new customer acquisition. - Reviewed and reported on over 500 scientific publications for pertinent business objectives in the area of antibody usage and characterization. Received positive feedback from the employer in terms of efficiency.

My volunteer role varies with this charity organization, mainly assisting at fundraising events. - Devised a sales plan targeted at the general public to sell tickets at a car show benefiting the client charity. Executed the sales plan and sold > 60 charity tickets (~ $300 USD) in a 3-hour period. - Communicated and educated experts and non-experts on cancer diagnosis, treatment, and scientific research to help raise the charity’s profile. - As a team of five, communicated and assisted in organizing > 100 volunteers to ensure the charity event runs effectively. The event raised ~ $150,000 USD for the charity organization.

As a team of six, co-developed a prototype product for mindless eating, as a demonstration of success, our team won the M.Biotech most innovative award in the year 2015. - Sourced and reviewed regulatory documents, patents, clinical trials, commercial and financial reports in the healthy eating/fitness related field that led to the development of a novel health and wellness device, Tummi, that tackle the problem of mindless eating. - Scoped market segments and conducted customer consultation and communicated results to the product development team that aided in the improvement of the product to satisfy unmet customer needs.
