Partner - Head Of Energy, Infrastructure & Sustainability, Emea
EMEA lead in Cushman for energy, infrastructure & sustainability. Recruited into the business to pull together the various strands of energy & sustainability business & people within what was DTZ and create a market leading service line with its own profitable P&L. The DTZ business was then acquired by TPG who latterly also acquired C&W merging the two businesses together under the single C&W brand. This created the third largest real estate consultancy globally. Appointed to lead the merge of the Energy, Infrastructure & Sustainability businesses across EMEA. Part of the six-person global leadership group within Cushman & Wakefield for energy & sustainability which drove service line development, market insight & customer development in the key geographies of North America, EMEA, APAC & Australia / New Zealand. The group managed the delivery of services to global clients, identifies global trends & adapted the global service line accordingly.Achievements at C&W include:• Creation of market leading service line which advises over 27 investment funds totalling some £40bn of assets• An advisor to some of the world’s leading occupiers including Unilever, Morgan Stanley, Sage & Samsung.• A highly profitable P&L with YOY revenue growth of circa 40%.• Growth of a capable team of focussed individuals • Development of new service line components - leading not following the market.• Innovating the approach to data and digitalisation.• Working closely with overseas colleagues to deliver a proper global capability.

Lead a full time 22-month strategic review of the entire global energy & sustainability position of the UK Ministry of Defence. This exercise was undertaken as part of the successful bid by Capita / URS / PA Consulting to become the strategic business partner of DIO (Defence Infrastructure Organisation). I headed up a diverse team of 20 people based in the UK& North America which analysed the annual £350m energy spend of the MOD across 4,000 sites worldwide which included 45,000 buildings, 50,000 houses and 225,000 hectares of land. The portfolio was a wide mix of tenures and uses with several sites part of the UK’s critical security infrastructure. The team devised a detailed 10-year strategy to reduce consumption & cost, acquire & analyse data, create benchmarks and develop an engagement strategy for the 200k military and 60k civilian personnel working in the organisation

Appointed as part of a new 3-person leadership team to deliver a sale of the business by IPO or trade sale. I sat on the main board of SRG plc and was responsible for all real estate, renewable energy, external relations & environmental issues. The main board contained several high-profile non-exec members including two former Cabinet Ministers. SRG was the largest open cast coal mining company in the UK employing some 1100 people.Achievements• Complete audit of the business and a strategy produced to facilitate sale of the business at maximum shareholder value through either IPO or trade sale.• Fundamental restructuring of staff roles and responsibilities. Skills gaps identified and the workforce increased by 50%.• Cultural change in staff behaviour, introduction of commercial practices & coordination between HQ & operational site-based staff (approx. 1000 staff)• Radical overhaul of the balance sheet & focus on profitability resulting in revenue increase• Rebanking of the entire company from RBS Global Restructuring Group to Lloyds Banking Group providing a new debt facility of £47.5m• Full marketing of the business to the main list of the London Stock Exchange• Complete rebranding of the business & production of all supporting collateral• Production & execution of a media & public affairs strategy for the group• Produced and implemented detailed strategy for operational business over 5/10/15 year horizon.
