Lead team of three software engineers, in addition to managing numerous projects with third-party vendor teams.* Created and implemented a DevSecOps strategy for the agency's main application, with GitLab and Ansible. This is a multi-phased approach, focusing initially on identifying and mitigating vulnerabilities, addressing quality issues during development, CI/CD, and ultimately containerization and elastic deployment strategies.* Developed, with a third-party vendor, a QA automated test suite, to be run as a part of the CI/CD pipeline. This test suite augments developer unit tests, and is intended to better catch regressions prior to production deployment.* Led a consulting engagement with a vendor to identify and mitigate performance bottlenecks in the main application. This has led to numerous discoveries and opportunities for improvement, including optimizing SQL, and more robust caching mechanisms.

In-line prompt for password for sensitive actions, AJAX callback to server that caches a "credential" in the user's session, for a given time limit.* Re-factored the user-contact-login model to better facilitate how users are accessing the system. A user may have multiple contact records, and multiple login profiles, as they may move from one applicant institution to another over time.* Designed conflict of interest tracking for meetings of the governing board of the agency. Conflicts must be declared prior to the meeting, and control which board members may vote to approve/deny application funding, as recommended by scientific peer review.

Leveraged my expertise in Master Data Management (MDM) to SAP's product portfolio, and helped the company realize its MDM strategy within the context of its push to the cloud.Led an agile development team as Product Owner. The team delivered matching technology, for consolidation of customer source data. * Java, SAP HANA* Authored use cases and conceptual mockups, led debate and obtained commitment, monitored and reported progress. * Collaborated with engineers and architects on the team to derive the best design for features called out by my requirements. * Led beta engagement with a customer to evaluate the matching technology developed by the team. Was able to prove successful matching as applied to customer's own data, and this helped gain customer's commitment for continued engagement.

Led transition planning for existing customers of Purisma technology to SAP support, as ongoing support of Purisma customers was part of the deal by which SAP acquired Purisma.* Delivered comprehensive walkthroughs of the Purisma technology within SAP, to product management and development personnel. * Created a live visualization of the benefits of MDM, using SAP HANA and Visual Intelligence (later, SAP Lumira). * Delivered presentations to senior management to convince them of the value proposition for the ongoing MDM project.

This was a role I initiated shortly after the acquisition of Purisma by Dun & Bradstreet. I recruited and supervised a team of four. Our charter was to design and deliver custom coding and consulting on advanced topics for Purisma customers. Furthermore, we created and ran a series of well-received, comprehensive training programs.Examples of custom implementations:* Extended the Purisma user interface using JSP, Java, Javascript, and web services. Permitted a user to do a real-time lookup of current D&B data for a customer record, rather than wait up to three weeks for a periodic batch update. * Developed an automated monthly reconciliation process for a financial services firm, utilizing custom Unix shell scripting and SQL around the Purisma core MDM, to update their master data analytics over a single weekend. This replaced a cumbersome manual process that took weeks.* Designed and implemented custom rules for master record construction using Jess and Java, customized to each customer's particular master data analytics goals.Created and delivered technical training programs on the Purisma technology for customers, colleagues in development and professional services, and partners. * This program was regularly cited by attendees as a major factor in their successful use of Purisma technology.* Delivered training to over 250 attendees over an 18-month period.* Generated over $300,000 in revenue.

I joined the engineering team for Purisma while it was an early stage startup. The company created a market-leading master data management (MDM) product.Designed and implemented the web services infrastructure, to enable enterprise integration and real-time data scenarios.* Used code generation to define the API and implementation based on the flexible Purisma data model. This included generation of Java and WSDL.* Worked with both QA and customers to improve the real-time performance of the services, including setting up test harnesses to stress test read-only and mixed read-write scenarios.* Determined and documented hardware and memory sizing recommendations to support anticipated real-time user loads. Created a rule-driven master hierarchy feature, to enable a customer to define a hierarchy specification that would self-populate master data into a hierarchy structure to drive analytics.* Defined the underlying data model.* Created the hierarchy population engine in Java, that read the hierarchy rules from the specification and then built or refreshed the structure.

Lead architect and company representative to the Web Services for Remote Portlets (WSRP) Technical Committee, of the Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards (OASIS). This was an industry initiative to standardize delivery of content via web services within a portal. I collaborated with the technical representatives of eight other companies on this committee.* Led all OASIS activities within Vignette on this topic.* Created and demonstrated proofs-of-concept using WSDL, UDDI and Java.* Reported to senior management to secure continued support and investment.* Co-edited the resulting industry standard, “Web Services for Remote Portlets 1.0”. The standard was accepted for publication in 2003.
