Maintaining the regulation of gambling theme which formed the backbone of my PhD thesis, my current research considers a variety of issues including; the regulation of gambling in the GATS/WTO, the potential role of the precautionary principle, and the possible role of consumer protection in gambling regulation.

In December 2009 I successfully defended my PhD thesis entitled ‘Member States versus the European Union: The Regulation of Gambling’. My thesis considered the compatibility of the regulation of gambling in France, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom with the requirements of EU law, particularly that relating to the Internal Market. My work covered all forms of gambling, both offline and online, and encompassed the different models of regulation (principally monopolies and various approaches to licensing).It will be published under the same title in spring 2010.

Assisting in the co-ordination and completion of the comparative study undertaken by the European Group of Experts on Combating Sexual Orientation Discrimination (EGESO) for the European Commission into the implementation of the ‘Framework Directive’ (2000/78/EC) in 15 member states regarding sexual orientation.

Assisted the case-handler responsible for infringement proceedings against the UK and Irish authorities in the field of public procurement; drafting correspondence with complainants, letters of formal notice and reasoned opinions.

Developed a comparative study into the implementation of the ‘Distance Selling Directive’ (1997/7/EC) in the then 15 member states, during a month in Brussels. Subsequently I completed the research with the co-operation of national umbrella trade associations, and drafted the report during my final undergraduate year.
