During this time I also assisted on the DNA Project and a wrote a computerized model of the entire criminal justice system to run “what if” scenario’s from the current period to twenty years into the future. The project was tasked to improve the baseline performance of the Criminal Justice System. The project team included Government Ministers plus very senior business leaders.

I was seconded to Govt. Served on the Exco’s of the Dept. of Justice & Constitutional Development, The National Prosecuting Authority and the audit advisory board of the Human Rights Commission. During this period I obtained for the Dept of Justice the first unqualified audit in the history of the department. Appointed as National Project Manager and Strategist for Business Against Crime (BACSA) before becoming the CEO of BACSA. Left when I was seconded to the Dept. of Justice. At the time a very large private sector corporation's MD was seconded to the SAPS and I went to the DoJ&CD. It was a move backed and funded by Business Leadership SA as a result of a joint initiative by big business and the Presidency.

Started and ran (together with the Premier Group’s Food Industries CEO) a national black empowerment joint venture with the Premier Group (Small Indulgences (PTY) Ltd.) and sold my interest to a group company (Constantia Greetings Ltd / Hallmark/CNA). I won an international licensed merchandise marketing award from Disney for growth and marketing innovation. We created many jobs and I learnt many lessons about BEE start-ups and I left as I sold out my ownership shares.

Joined a start-up called Hospitality as CFO and minority shareholder and later became the MD. sat on the Boards of Group companies in Southern Africa in including Hospitality Resorts & Hotels. Took the company into the Premier Group and grew the company across Southern Africa. Sold a 50% interest to the International Sodexho Group, who is arguably the largest facilities management operator in the world. Left as the company was sold and a French MD was brought in.

They had not had one student pass the PAAB’s board exams for CA’s in 5 years. Accepted the post of HOD of the Dept. of Accounting at UDW and Associate Professor of Financial Management and Information Technology.
