I was a driving force behind the growth of an iconic restaurant and bar in the close suburbs of Boston. Everyone dreams of owning a restaurant and bar and I was lucky enough to live it and enjoy tremendous success while honing a huge range of skills. It was here that I first learned how to bring my energy, passion, curiosity, insight, marketing/business/communication skills together with my love in sharing food, beverage, hospitality and live music. At the highest level, this was an entrepreneurial role growing a startup hospitality group into a valued and consistently profitable brand. As the managing stakeholder and catalyst for organizational growth, this role demanded constant learning and personal development of the entire spectrum of business skills. Major responsibilities included full p&l accountability, operations mgt., sales growth, marketing plans, IT management and a relentless pursuit of excellent products and services.

As I set out on a freelance writing career I landed an interview assignment for a magazine ahead of it's time in terms of it's focus on health and well being. My article was on George Leonard, the famous LOOK magazine editor and education and motivation thought leader who published a book on "mastery" and the life lessons from accepting and loving the plateaus as we pursue our goals. The article, entitled "What's Better Than Instant Gratification" was featured on the cover of the June, 1990 New Age Journal Magazine. The magazine was bought by Martha Stewart and rebranded as Body+Soul and then today's Whole Living. (I lent my copy of "Mastery" to my old martial arts teacher and recently picked up another copy because it's still relevant today.)
