As an Administrative Assistant supporting the medical leads for radiation, systemic, and surgical oncology, as well as their teams, I am constantly balancing priorities. Through my initiative driven work I problem solve methods of organization, communication, and tracking to manage the diverse array of ongoing projects and tasks. From overseeing the management of calendars to preparing documents and minuting meetings, I maintain a strong level of organization and communication. Drawing on my background as a program coordinator, I support and coordinate a wide range of projects.

As a Project Coordinator with PHSA’s BC Cancer I worked to support multiple redevelopment projects. From developing systems for project management, to preparing reports and other documents, I was flexible in adapting to the needs of the projects. Through my strong organizational skills, and creative thinking I strived to optimize workflows, and stay one-step ahead of the project schedule. My success in developing project management tools led to a short term contract with the St. Paul's Hospital Redevelopment team to implement similar management strategies.

Climb and Conquer is a non-profit organization that offers various climbing programs to underserved, low income youth in the community. Through climbing and mentorship the organization aims to uplift and empower youth. As a coordinator I was responsible for designing and facilitating group climbing experiences.

From managing a staff team, coordinating and delivering various youth programs, and responding to customer inquiries and bookings, this work required constant prioritizing and re-prioritizing. As a logical thinker and excellent organizer I am at ease managing shifting priorities and communicating across multiple departments. In addition to managing the day-to-day logistics, I took a broader approach to examine and be creative in finding solutions to improve systems and operations.

As a contract facilitator for the HeartWood Centre I worked on short term community development programs, usually with at least 1 co-facilitator. Using an assets-based approach meant that we were often shifting our plan on the spot to better meet the needs of the participants. I thrive in this environment, where my brain is actively engaged in creative-thinking to manage multiple factors at once and react in a concise and effective manner.

HWYC was a youth employability program focused around the social determinants of health. We provided grants to organizations which would engage and hire a youth employee to contribute to an existing project, or create a new one. On this team I worked to support both the organizations, and their interns to ensure the program went smoothly and both parties were satisfied. Through individual support with the community partners and interns, as well co-facilitated group trainings, we worked to build skills in youth engagement and employment as well as knowledge in health.

For 2 years I coordinated and facilitated HeartWood’s summer program ‘Skills2Action’ which connected Nova Scotian youth to mentors in their community. Through the coordination of the program I built connections with youth-involved organizations across the province to recruit young leaders, as well as built relationships with adult youth supporters. I worked closely with the youth participants to support them in building relationships with community supports and mentors in order for them to carry out an action project in their own community.

The hostel provides a dynamic work environment, often working across language and cultural barriers, I have learned how to communicate clearly across boundaries, as well as developed my interpersonal skills, and grown my patience. As the first point of contact with guests I was responsible for, and cared deeply about, creating a welcoming and positive environment for their stay in Halifax. Among the staff team communication is key to ensure smooth shift changes and running of the hostel.
