About Alan Pawlak
PhD candidate specialising in spatial audio and binaural rendering, with a focus on improving the perceptual quality of auralisation. I have a deep understanding of the importance of psychoacoustics in audio engineering and digital signal processing. My ongoing PhD project, titled "Optimising the User Experience of Auralisation" is a joint venture between Genelec Oy and the Applied Psychoacoustics Lab at the University of Huddersfield. This research entails supplying experimental data as well as psychoacoustic principles in order to improve the quality of binaural auralisation employing spatial room impulse responses.I have also been involved in audio plugin development and am well-versed in the JUCE framework. As a research assistant, my responsibilities included implementing graphical user interfaces (GUIs) and integrating the GUI with the DSP (Digital Signal Processing) backend in audio plugins using C++, the JUCE Framework, as well as Python, Matlab, Bash, and PowerShell.Throughout my professional and academic career, I have gained experience in Python, Matlab, and C++, as well as solid abilities in academic writing and statistical analysis using R. As a music enthusiast and creative thinker, I can offer a unique blend of technical and creative skills. I have been playing guitar and bass guitar for over a decade. More recently, I have been expanding my creativity and artistic expression through DJing and music production. I also enjoy immersing myself in different art forms, including arthouse cinema and photography. To maintain a healthy work-life balance, I regularly go to the gym and cycle.Upon completing my PhD in September 2023, I am eager to find a job in the tech industry, particularly in software development or audio R&D. My current expertise is highly focused on spatial audio, room acoustics, and binaural rendering, but I am open to new challenges and opportunities in the tech industry.
