Rigging a cable cam in a forest, up a mountain, over a river or through a gorge, is what I do best. The BBC were working in Turkmenistan as part of a three year project to help improve their television output, with aims to introduce some independent journalism. I travelled to Turkmenistan on a number of occasions to train camera operators and producers and filmed in some of their most spectacular locations. We set up twenty camera traps in Badghyz National Park, a desert and steppe region situated directly on the boarder of Afghanistan, where we successfully captured the illusive Persian Leopard and numerous other species of wildlife. I also had the absolute pleasure of working with Sir David Attenborough to produce a short film for the Herefordshire Nature Trust, focusing on their scheme of ‘Wildplay’ and endangered wildlife. Working on a film or documentary shoot has a variety of roles:• Research & development of the film/documentary subject.• Calculating budget.• Organise location/s for filming, arranging for the film crew to be available for specified days.• Organise transport, including flights, 4x4s and minibuses.• Organise fixers at both National and International locations.• Organise film equipment: cameras, sound equipment, batteries, drones and rigging equipment.• Check all necessary paperwork: passports; carnets, risk assessments; first aid, insurances and medevac services.• First Aid equipment-relevant to location.• 2-way radios, GPS & SAT Phones.
