As Professor of Astrophysics, I lead a team of researchers in exploring the nature of Dark Matter both in underground experiments (like SABRE at the bottom of an active gold mine in Stawell, Victoria) as well as using supercomputer simulations to determine the impact of the otherwise invisible dark matter on the stars and gas that we can see. In my role as Program Lead of SpaceTech Applications in Swinburne's Data Science Research Institute, I translate our leading astrophysics knowledge to address external industry and community needs.

I am a Research Fellow specialising in supercomputer simulations of galaxy formation. I use these simulations to constrain the nature of a mysterious new substance known as dark matter which holds the galaxies together. These simulations inform my efforts to find it in the lab with SABRE the world's first dark matter detector in the Southern Hemisphere as well as map out the dark matter the next generation Australian SKA Pathfinder telescope. When not researching dark matter I lecture in physics and explain science on ABC Breakfast TV and Channel Ten's The Project.

I am part of a newly established research group probing the way in which the first galaxies formed in the Universe. Combining some of the largest computer simulations to date we will test the current cosmological paradigm and try and understand the tentative results that the Hubble Space Telescope (and ultimately the successor NASA mission, the James Webb Space Telescope) have made.

I model universes using supercomputers around the world to try and better understand the formation of galaxies such as our own Milky Way, as well as probe the nature of Dark Matter (a mysterious type of matter that appears to hold the galaxies together). As well as this I try and use the positions of galaxies on the sky to investigate Dark Energy (an unknown force/energy that is driving the galaxies apart).Additionally, I take the simulated universes and create realistic observations of forthcoming telescopes to improve the designs of these facilities; such as the enormous Five-hundred metre Aperture Spherical Telescope in China or the futuristic Australian Square Kilometre Array Pathfinder.
