Gained maths and physics A levels whilst attending Leyton County High School. Commenced training as a land surveyor in 1965 with J A Story and Partners, chartered land surveyors, in London.Studied at North East London Polytechnic on the RICS recognised course in land surveying 1967 - 1970.Passed the RICS Final Examination and gained the NELP Diploma in Land Surveying.Returned to J A Story and Partners on completion of the course to work as a senior land surveyor/ office manager in the Cayman Islands 1970 - 1972.Carried out surveys for boundary demarcation, development, powerline easements and off shore dredging.1972 - 1977 worked for J A Story and Partners Bristol office as a senior land surveyor and project manager on topographical, engineering and photogrammetric surveys.Elected as a Professional Associate of RICS in 1977.1977 - 1979 seconded to CERN for a two year contract carrying out topograhical, precise dimensional control and service cadastre surveys. Joined M. J. Rees and Company Ltd., chartered land surveyors, in 1979 as a senior land surveyor and project manager. Became a director of M. J. Rees and Company Ltd. in 1981.Elected as a Fellow of RICS in 1988.Became managing director of M. J. Rees in 1996. Has been a member of mapping and positioning and building surveying RICS Practice Panels and currently acts as an assessor and member of professional interview panels for the Geomatics Faculty.Acts as mentor to RICS APC candidates.Member of the Disputes Resolution Professional Group of the RICS.Experience includes the preparation of reports and court appearance as an expert witness in relation to various boundary and measurement disputes. Retired as Managing Director of M J Rees in 2011, but continues to work for them as a geomatics consultant specialising in expert witness reports.Now active in creative photography having won several local competitions and exhibited to raise funds for Jessie May, a charity offering support to families with a child suffering from life limiting disability.
