MKS is a fourth-generation family owned commercial builder. I worked with the business development team to bring economic development expertise to the firm's consulting and development projects. Services that MKS can now provide include site selection, incentives negotiation, site development, spec building development, and build-to-suit.

I led the team that is building a global network of business decision makers and location influencers in order to bring job creation and investment projects to our 11-county region. Outreach focused on growth-oriented companies, industry events, and specific markets in target industries such as medical device & technology and specialty insurance, in order to generate a pipeline of business prospects.I also led the startup the 11-county Northeast Indiana Regional Development Authority in order to implement the Road to One Million regional development plan. Our efforts saw the formation of a Regional Development Authority representing 11-counties and 26-cities that is supporting a 10-year plan involving more than 70 quality of place projects anticipated to generate $1.5 billion in investment.

During my tenure at the EDC, we expanded our focus to serve as a focal point for planning, building, and equipping businesses in Whitley County. In addition to leading business attraction and business retention and expansion efforts, the EDC began agribusiness, community development, medical device, and small business & entrepreneurship initiatives. The EDC also provided staff support for the Whitley County Redevelopment Commission and liaison to regional- and state-level organizations and initiatives.Examples of business attraction clients include new US operations for German orthopedics company DOT America and high-tech Canadian firm Iotron Industries, additional Northeast Indiana operations for Fort Wayne Metals and Novae Corporation, and new businesses Impact CNC, PDQ Tooling, and PDQ Workholding.Ongoing business retention and expansion efforts involved quarterly Executive Roundtable events, formation of the EDC Architects and EDG Builders award programs, and multiple job creation and investment projects involving leading employers 80/20, C&A Tool, Micropulse, and Ultra Electronics-USSI. Retention and expansion projects involved companies at all stages of business and in every community in Whitley County.The EDC's Small Business & Entrepreneurship Initiative (SBEI) launched with funding from the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs and scaled-up to include multiple cohorts of an accelerator program that involved companies such as Global Medical Industries and Restoration Medical Polymers; multiple sessions of Kauffman FastTrac New Ventures and Growth Ventures programs; formation of multiple Revolving Loan Fund programs; and setup of the EDC Outpost co-working facility.Collaboration with the Whitley County Redevelopment Commission saw upgrades of Park 30 Business Center, development of Rail Connect Business Park, refresh of Gateway Industrial Park, and construction of multiple industrial spec buildings.
