• Investigated velocity variations of overburden in the northern Norphlet Exploration Area of the Gulf of Mexico, to gain granularity in migration velocities, which previously led to mis-targeted wells.• Utilized synthetic seismogram generation and well tie processes to determine where these variations in the velocity model were occurring and calculated the degree to which the model was affected.• Extrapolated variations through thickness maps and seismic attributes and proposed a more granular modeling process to mitigate mis-targeted wells in future development.• Presented findings to upper-management and leadership.
