Lead teams of Computer and Data Scientists in the development of advanced analytics to enable informed and objective decision-making for the US Army's Network Enterprise Technology Command (NETCOM), which is responsible for managing, securing and defending the Army's portion of the DoDIN.

Developed the Computer Science Major/Minor and the Information Science and Multimedia Design (ISMD) Major curriculum and taught classes in the CSC and ISMD programs of Southern Virginia University, specializing in software development, data structures, and artificial intelligence. Other duties included: participation in technology forecasting and strategic technical and business planning, and introduction and dissemination of improved software process and quality assurance techniques.

Director of the Research in Artificial Intelligence and Software Engineering (RAISE) Laboratory. Taught undergraduate and graduate classes in the computer science department, specializing in software development and artificial intelligence. Conducted research under both internal and external grants. Supervised M.S. and Ph.D. students in their degree and thesis research work. Member of the Graduate Policy Committee. Courses taught: CS130 (C++ Programming for Science and Engineering Majors), CS240 (C++ and Unix), CS327 (Software Engineering), CS428 (Object-Oriented Software Engineering), CS470 (Artificial Intelligence), and CS501R (Special Topics: Artificial Intelligence in Software Engineering). Areas of research include: software reuse, program representation and understanding, analogical reasoning, distributed distance-learning systems, program synthesis, knowledge-based design tools and environments, advanced/parallel simulation methodologies.

Team Leader, and Project Leader and Director of Research in the Advanced Simulation and Software Engineering Technology laboratory. Managed a 10 researcher team with a research budget exceeding a million dollars a year. Founded a new, cooperative multi-disciplinary research laboratory with the University of Illinois (Advanced Collaborative Systems Laboratory). Headed research projects in: knowledge-based programming support, collaborative software engineering, paradigms for integrating imperative and declarative programming styles, object-oriented language design, software engineering methodologies, and simulation and modeling.

Member of the Computer Science Laboratory of SRI International. Developed a methodology for the specification and verification of secure multi-level database systems (SEAVIEWS). Taught commercial courses in computer security and mathematical verification to government and industrial clients. Other research included: the design and development of automated intrusion detection expert systems, verification and validation of knowledge-based software, and applications of formal verification technology

Researcher and Deputy Branch Chief at the National Security Agency (NSA) at Fort Meade, MD. Conducted research in computer security methodologies, including expert systems for intrusion detection, database security, and the development of proveably secure software systems through the use of formal methods. Was awarded the Joint Service Achievement Medal for meritorious service.
