BCIT’s Sustainable Business Leadership (SBL) Advanced Diploma and Certificate are the only programs in British Columbia purely focused on sustainable business. Through a one-year intensive program, students study the most current issues in sustainability and participate in a business consulting project for practical experience. As a faculty member, I have designed and taught courses on Earth Systems, Environmental Policy, and Sustainable Business in both the SBL and the Bachelor of Business Administration programs. Previously taught courses on Science Communication (Simon Fraser University) and Earth Science (Kwantlen Polytechnic University).

LitScience was a consulting partnership that provided science communication training for academic, research, and industry organizations across Canada. As co-founder, I designed and delivered programs for students, researchers, and professionals and supported industry and research organizations with strategic communication planning and implementation. I also contributed to several magazines on environmental topics, including serving as editor of the UBC-based Earth Matters magazine and as a regular contributor to Water Canada magazine.

Consulted on projects across Canada, including environmental impact assessments, groundwater studies, water management plans, and contaminated sites investigations. Clients included First Nations, government, and industry. Projects included assessing the impacts of a mining spill on BC’s North Coast, conducting a review of a mine Environmental Impact Assessment in the Yukon on behalf of a First Nation, and completing a multi-stakeholder sediment management plan for the Prince Rupert region.

Tempo School, Edmonton

Managed the debate and speech program at Tempo School in Edmonton. Responsibilities included teaching weekly debate sessions for junior high and high school students, organizing an annual debate attended by more than a hundred students, coaches, and judges from across the city, and acting as a liaison between the school and the Alberta Debate and Speech Association.
