The role includes working with landowners, land agents, estate owners and partnership organisations (such as the Forestry Commission and Woodland Trust) amongst other stakeholders to develop and implement ambitious but achievable woodland creation targets within the North York Moors National Park.Additionally, after identifying a lack in the availability of local provenance (FC zone 401) trees available I am currently in the process of setting up a long term volunteer tree seed collection project in partnership with local tree nurseries to provide locally sourced trees for future projects.In May 2018 I became the representative for the North York Moors National Park Authority to the Society of National Park Staff. In July 2015 I undertook a contract working alongside Kew Gardens' Millenium Tree Seed Project Partnership as the lead officer in the collection of 330,000 viable native tree seeds across Forestry Commission seed provenance zone 204. This project was focused on the collection of tree seeds with community and volunteer groups across South East Scotland and an extensive stretch of the North Eastern English Coast.In November 2015 my contract was upgraded from part-time to full time and was amended to include the management, surveying and coordination of work on around 30 woodland sites across the Scottish Borders, in addition to my previously mentioned responsibilities. This amounted to around 3,700 Hectares and included the coordination and management of existing woodlands and the management of large upland new native woodland planting projects (of up to 200-300 Hectares).
