My job at this small company which specializes in providing consulting services to the Canadian Government started as managing Business Development, but I soon became the go to for growth initiatives in the company with duties extending to strategy, recruitment, marketing, organizational design, and financial analysis, among others.I joined the company during a period of rapid growth which required me to quickly learn the details of government procurement, while simultaneously working to modify the structure and processes of the organization to accommodate the scaling of the business and its employees.As the business grew, my responsibilities grew to be too much for one person, resulting in me designing, hiring, and training a new business unit within the organization to support business functions; this team contributed to increases in revenues of over 40%.

I moved through the ranks of the heavily regulated aquatics section of the City of Ottawa’s recreation department from part-time employee to an aquatic programs manager for the final six years of my employment. In this program management role, I worked at numerous sites; all involving the identification of problems unique to that facility and devising strategies to solve them. In my final posting, I was tasked with the opening of a newly built facility. This opening involved the hiring and training of a largely inexperienced staff group as well as the development of a full complement of programs tailored to the needs of the community through market research. As well as the management of a 75-member team, I was also responsible for designing and executing marketing programs and managing the budget of the aquatics facility. Within a year of opening, the site was outperforming all existing sites in the area.
