My areas of interest, work and focus are now primarily clustered around education, enterprise and leadership. With the emphasis on helping organisations to achieve consistently high levels of performance. I spent the first part of my career, leading award winning newspaper and multi media businesses for the Daily Mail and General Trust Plc and Trinity Mirror Plc. Moving on to become the founding CEO and Chairman of the BE Group ( now UMi ), a a major employee owned company which works with governments, corporates and tens of thousands of SME's across the UK. Specialising in large scale economic development contracts/projects. As well as leading the team at Glen Ogle Partners, I hold a number of non executive roles with some tremendous businesses, and I've chaired the board of several Universities. I've been fortunate enough to have a long association with Teesside University, where I was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Business in 2021. I'm currently Chair of Court at UHI,a globally recognised tertiary institution, that's having a transformational impact on the people, communities and economy of the Highlands and Islands.
